Is Water Wisteria easy to grow?
Water Wisteria is a fast, forgiving stem plant suited to beginners. Brighter light and a little fertiliser bring out the best growth and colour.
Does it need CO₂?
No – it grows without CO₂, though CO₂ and stronger light speed it up.
How do I plant it?
Plant the stems in substrate a few centimetres apart; trim and replant the cut tops to build a fuller group.
How do I keep Water Wisteria alive?
Give it medium light for 6–8 hours a day, water at 22–27°C and a weekly dose of liquid fertiliser with iron and potassium. Plant each stem about 2 cm deep and 3–5 cm apart so the lower leaves get light. Nursery-grown leaves often melt in the first one to two weeks underwater; trim them off and new, finer underwater leaves usually follow. Our care guide explains how to fix melt.

Can Water Wisteria grow out of water?
Yes. Water Wisteria grows well emersed in a humid paludarium or on a damp riverbank-style setup. Out of water its leaves come in thicker, rounder and much less divided than the lacy underwater form. When an emersed-grown stem is planted underwater it may drop some older leaves before the feathery submerged leaves appear.
