Description

Anubias Chili (also spelled Chilli) is a compact, collector-grade cultivar prized for its narrow leaves and warm, bronze-tinted new growth. Slow and hardy like all Anubias, it adds texture and a hint of colour to nano aquascapes. Attach the rhizome to wood or rock and let it become a focal-point detail.

What you get: one rhizome plant with about 8–12 leaves, similar to the photo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Anubias Chili easy to grow?

Yes — Anubias Chili is a hardy, slow-growing Anubias that thrives in low light without CO₂, making it one of the easiest aquarium plants for beginners.

Does Anubias Chili need CO₂?

No. Anubias Chili grows well with no CO₂ and only low to moderate light. Added CO₂ and fertiliser speed up growth a little, but stronger light mainly feeds algae on its slow leaves.

How do I plant Anubias Chili?

Never bury the rhizome. Attach Anubias Chili to driftwood or rock with cotton thread or aquarium-safe super-glue gel, leaving the rhizome exposed — its roots grip the surface within a few weeks.

Is Anubias Chili safe for shrimp and fish?

Yes. Anubias Chili is safe for shrimp and fish in the aquarium, and it suits shrimp tanks and community tanks. Like all Anubias, its leaves contain calcium oxalate, so do not let cats, dogs or other pets eat trimmed leaves. Give it a gentle rinse before adding it to your tank.

How is Anubias Chili shipped across India?

It is hand-packed and sent by courier anywhere in India for a flat ₹99, free on orders of ₹999 or more. If it arrives dead, send one continuous unboxing video within 4 hours of delivery on WhatsApp (+91 81416 96983) or email (buyanubias@gmail.com) and we refund or replace it. Photos alone are not accepted.

Why are Anubias so expensive?

Common green Anubias are not costly here. They start at ₹90, less than many other plants we sell. Collector cultivars cost more because Anubias grow very slowly. A plant adds about one leaf every 2–3 weeks, and new plants come mainly from dividing the rhizome or from tissue culture, so stock builds up over months. Cultivars like Chili are grown in smaller numbers, so Chili costs ₹310.

Does Anubias Chili grow quickly?

No. Like all Anubias, Chili grows slowly. In a low-tech tank with no CO₂, most Anubias make about one new leaf every 2–3 weeks. Compact types like Chili are often slower, and the rhizome lengthens only a few centimetres a year. Moderate light, weekly liquid fertiliser and CO₂ speed it up a little. Keep lighting to 6–8 hours, or algae settles on the slow leaves. More in how fast Anubias grows.

What is the rarest Anubias?

Among Anubias sold in India, heavily variegated cultivars such as Snow White, Marble, Panda and Stardust are the rarest and hardest to find. Their white or speckled leaves carry less chlorophyll, so they grow even slower than green Anubias and cost more. Chili is not variegated. It is a compact collector cultivar: uncommon, but easier to find and more forgiving. Compare prices in our rare Anubias guide.
