Frequently Asked Questions

Is Anubias Congensis easy to grow?

Yes – Anubias Congensis is a hardy, slow-growing Anubias that thrives in low light without CO₂.

How big does Anubias Congensis get?

In most home aquariums Anubias Congensis settles at about 20–30 cm tall, with narrow leaves around 10–15 cm long. It takes a long time to reach that size because it grows slowly, often one new leaf every few weeks. The rhizome creeps sideways, so give it room in the midground or background of a medium or large tank. Compare other large Anubias for big tanks.

How do I care for an Anubias Congensis aquarium plant?

Keep the rhizome above the substrate, tied or glued to wood or rock. Give it low to moderate light for 6–8 hours a day, water at 22–28°C and a weekly partial water change. CO₂ is not needed. A light weekly liquid fertiliser helps in tanks with few fish. Trim old or damaged leaves by cutting the leaf stalk close to the rhizome. Full steps are in our Anubias congensis care guide.

How do I plant it?

Never bury the rhizome. Attach it to driftwood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe glue; the roots grip on their own.

Is it safe for shrimp and fish?

Yes. Anubias Congensis is safe for shrimp and fish in the aquarium and releases nothing harmful into the water. Shrimp graze the film that forms on its leaves, and most fish do not eat its tough leaves. Like all Anubias, it contains calcium oxalate, so keep trimmed leaves away from cats, dogs and other pets that might chew them.

Is Anubias Congensis safe for bettas?

Yes. Anubias Congensis is safe in a betta tank and releases nothing harmful into the water. Its leaves are smooth, with no sharp edges to snag long fins, and bettas often rest on them. It is happy at the 24–28°C most bettas need, needs no CO₂, and bettas do not eat it. Tie it to wood so the leaves reach up near the surface. More on whether Anubias is toxic.
