Description
Java Fern Wrinkled Leaf (also sold as Wrinkled Leaf Java Fern) is a variety of Microsorum pteropus with deeply crinkled, textured leaves that add movement to an aquascape. Just as tough and forgiving as standard Java fern — low light, no CO₂, attaches to hardscape — but with extra visual interest from its rippled foliage.
What you get: one rhizome plant (a small clump) with about 12–15 leaves, similar to the photo.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wrinkled Leaf Java Fern easy to grow?
Yes. Java fern is one of the hardiest aquarium plants and grows well in low light without CO₂. The most common way to lose it is burying the rhizome, which makes it rot, so keep it tied to wood or rock. It suits beginners and betta tanks.
Does it need CO₂?
No CO₂ is needed — low to moderate light is plenty.
How do I plant it?
Never bury the rhizome. Attach it to driftwood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe glue, leaving the rhizome exposed; the roots grip on their own.
Is it safe for shrimp and fish?
Yes. Its tough leaves have no sharp edges, so they will not tear betta fins, and most fish, even many plant-eaters, leave Java fern alone. Shrimp graze the biofilm on its leaves.
How is it shipped across India?
It is hand-packed and sent by courier anywhere in India for a flat ₹99, free on orders of ₹999 or more. If it arrives dead, send one continuous unboxing video within 4 hours of delivery on WhatsApp (+91 81416 96983) or email (buyanubias@gmail.com), with your order number, and we refund or replace it. The same video is needed for a damaged or wrong plant; photos alone are not accepted.
What does a healthy Java Fern look like?
A healthy Wrinkled Leaf Java Fern has firm, deep green leaves with an even, crinkled surface, and a thick green-brown rhizome with dark roots gripping wood or rock. New leaves grow slowly from the tip of the rhizome. Baby plantlets forming on older leaves are normal too. See-through brown patches, pale new leaves or a soft, black rhizome are signs of trouble.
Why are my Java Fern leaves curling up?
First rule out normal texture: Wrinkled Leaf Java Fern grows crinkled, rippled leaves by nature. Leaves that roll inward, twist or turn pale are the real problem. Common causes are too much light, a nutrient shortage, or water that stays above 28°C. Move it to a shadier spot and dose a complete liquid fertiliser weekly. On RO or rain water, also add a GH remineraliser, because low calcium and magnesium twist new leaves. Curled leaves stay curled, but new leaves should grow normal.
Why are my Java Fern leaves browning?
Spreading brown, see-through patches usually mean a nutrient shortage, most often potassium or nitrogen. Leaves that go soft and brown from the base point to a buried or rotting rhizome, and burnt-looking patches on leaves nearest the lamp mean too much light. Neat rows of small dark dots under the leaves are normal. Trim badly damaged leaves at the rhizome. See our Java fern brown and black leaves guide.
What is the best fertiliser for Java Fern?
A complete liquid fertiliser dosed into the water is best, because Java Fern takes nutrients through its leaves and rhizome roots, not from the substrate. Root tabs do little for it. Choose one with potassium and iron, and dose once a week at half the label rate in low-light tanks. Overdosing a lightly planted tank feeds algae instead. Read root tabs vs liquid fertiliser.
