Anubias Snow White

Anubias Nana Snow White is a variegated cultivar of Anubias barteri var. nana with leaves that are mostly white, often with light green marbling. It stays small, usually 5–10 cm tall, so it suits nano tanks and the front of larger aquariums. Care is the same as other Anubias: low to moderate light, no CO₂ and 22–28°C. No. Anubias is one of the slowest-growing aquarium plants and usually adds about one new leaf every 2–3 weeks. Snow White is slower still, because its white leaves have little chlorophyll, and a lost leaf can take over a month to replace. Strong light barely speeds it up and mostly feeds algae. Never bury the rhizome. Attach it to driftwood or rock with thread or aquarium-safe glue; the roots grip on their own.

Yes. Anubias Snow White is safe for shrimp and fish in the aquarium, and it suits shrimp tanks and community tanks. Like all Anubias, its leaves contain calcium oxalate, so do not let cats, dogs or other pets eat trimmed leaves.

Anubias costs more than most aquarium plants because it grows so slowly. A plant adds only about one leaf every 2–3 weeks, so raising a rhizome to selling size takes months. Variegated types like Snow White grow even slower and are produced in small batches, so they cost more again. Snow White is also imported to order. There is no single rarest Anubias. In India, variegated cultivars such as Snow White, Marble, Panda and Stardust are the hardest to find.
