Frequently Asked Questions
Is Anubias Panda easy to grow?
Yes. Anubias Panda is hardy and does well in low to moderate light without CO₂. It is less forgiving than green Anubias, though. It grows very slowly, so it takes a long time to recover if leaves are damaged or covered in algae.
Does Anubias Panda need CO₂?
No. Anubias Panda grows well with no CO₂ and only low to moderate light. Added CO₂ can speed growth a little, but avoid very bright light, which mostly grows algae on the pale patches.
How do I plant Anubias Panda?
Never bury the rhizome. Attach Anubias Panda to driftwood or rock with cotton thread or aquarium-safe super-glue gel, leaving the rhizome exposed — its roots grip the surface within a few weeks.
Is Anubias Panda safe for shrimp and fish?
Yes, Anubias Panda is safe for shrimp and fish in the aquarium. Like all Anubias, its leaves and rhizome contain calcium oxalate, so keep trimmed leaves away from cats, dogs and other pets that might chew them. We recommend a gentle rinse before adding it to your tank.
Is Anubias a fast growing plant?
No. Anubias is one of the slowest aquarium plants. A healthy green Anubias grows roughly one new leaf every 2–3 weeks in a low-tech tank, and Anubias Panda grows even slower because its white patches make less energy. Strong light speeds it up only a little and mostly grows algae on the leaves. Steady conditions and a weekly liquid fertiliser help most. See why is my Anubias not growing.
What is the rarest Anubias?
There is no single rarest Anubias. Among plants sold in India, heavily variegated cultivars such as Snow White, Marble, Stardust and Panda are the hardest to find. Most began as chance mutations, multiply very slowly and are produced in small batches, so supply stays low. Compare varieties, prices and availability in our rare Anubias guide.
Why are Anubias so expensive?
Common green Anubias are not costly here: Anubias Nana starts at ₹90. Collector types like Panda cost more because Anubias grow very slowly, about one new leaf every 2–3 weeks. Variegated types are slower still, because their white patches have little chlorophyll, and they are produced in small batches.
