Description

Anubias Nana (Anubias barteri var. nana) is the classic compact Anubias with rounded dark-green leaves about 4–6 cm long, grown in Surat and graded by leaf count from S to XL. It stays about 5–10 cm tall, so it suits the foreground and midground of nano and community tanks alike. Almost indestructible, it thrives in low light without CO₂ and attaches to wood and rock for an instant natural look.

Need something smaller? Anubias Nana Petite has 1–2 cm leaves for nano tanks and tight gaps, and Anubias Nana Gold is the same compact plant with golden-green leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Anubias Nana easy to grow?

Yes. Anubias Nana is one of the easiest aquarium plants for beginners: it grows in low to moderate light without CO₂, handles 22–28°C, and its tough leaves last for months. The two rules are to keep the rhizome above the substrate and the light gentle enough to avoid algae.

How big does Anubias Nana grow?

Anubias Nana stays small: usually 5–10 cm tall with leaves about 4–6 cm long. It doesn’t grow taller with age; it spreads sideways along its rhizome, adding roughly one new leaf every one to three weeks. A starter cutting (S) typically reaches our M size in 3–6 months.

Anubias Nana vs Nana Petite: what is the difference?

Size. Anubias Nana grows about 5–10 cm tall with leaves 4–6 cm long, while Nana Petite stays under 5 cm with leaves around 1–2 cm, so Petite fits nano tanks and tight gaps in hardscape. Care is identical, and both cost ₹90–₹250 by size. Side-by-side comparison: Anubias Nana vs Petite.

How do I take care of Anubias Nana?

Tie it to wood or rock with the rhizome uncovered, give it low to moderate light, keep the water at 22–28°C, and dose a light liquid fertiliser such as Green Plus + Trace once a week. Keep it out of strong direct light to avoid algae on the leaves, and trim old leaves at the rhizome. Full routine: Anubias care guide.

Why does Anubias cost more than other aquarium plants?

Because it grows slowly, a grower needs months to raise each plant, while fast stem plants can be cut every few weeks. That’s why we sell graded sizes: a starter cutting is ₹90, and bigger, older plants cost more. More in our Anubias FAQ.

Does Anubias Nana need CO₂?

No. Anubias Nana grows well with no CO₂ and only low to moderate light. Added CO₂ can speed up its slow growth a little, but brighter light mainly brings algae on the leaves, so keep it out of strong direct light.

How do I plant Anubias Nana?

Tie Anubias Nana to driftwood or rock with cotton thread, or fix it with a dot of aquarium-safe super-glue gel, and never bury the rhizome. Its roots grip the surface within a few weeks and can also reach down into the substrate, as long as the rhizome itself stays uncovered.

Is Anubias Nana safe for shrimp and fish?

Yes, Anubias Nana is safe for shrimp tanks and community aquariums. Like all Anubias, it contains calcium oxalate, so keep trimmed leaves away from cats, dogs and other pets — it is not safe for them to eat. We recommend a gentle rinse before adding it to your tank.

How is Anubias Nana shipped across India?

It is hand-packed and sent by courier anywhere in India for a flat ₹99, free on orders of ₹999 or more. If it arrives dead, send one continuous unboxing video within 4 hours of delivery on WhatsApp (+91 81416 96983) or email (buyanubias@gmail.com) and we refund or replace it; photos alone are not accepted.

Does Anubias Nana need soil?

No. Anubias Nana is an epiphyte, so it does not need soil or aqua soil. Tie or glue its rhizome to driftwood or rock, or wedge it between stones. Its roots may grow down into the substrate on their own, which is fine, but the thick rhizome itself must stay uncovered or it will rot.
