Rare Anubias in India: Varieties, Prices and Care (2026)

Rare Anubias in India: Varieties, Prices and Care (2026) – Anubias.in

Rare and variegated Anubias have become some of the most wanted aquarium plants in India. Their white, cream and speckled leaves look nothing like ordinary green Anubias, but they also cost more, grow slower and need slightly different care. This guide lists the rare Anubias available in India, what they cost in 2026, and how to keep them healthy.

Quick answer: Rare Anubias in India range from about ₹200 for Congensis to ₹1,650 for Var King. Popular variegated types include Pinto and Nana White (₹310), Snow White (₹420), Stardust (₹1,100), Panda (₹1,250) and Marble (₹1,350). They need the same basic care as any Anubias (attached rhizome, no CO2, 22–28 °C) but grow even slower, prefer gentle light and stable water, and should never be buried.

Why are rare Anubias so expensive?

Rare Anubias are expensive because they multiply extremely slowly and are in high demand. Variegated leaves contain less chlorophyll, so the plant makes less energy and grows even slower than normal Anubias, which already adds only about one leaf every few weeks. Many cultivars also appear only as occasional mutations, are propagated by tissue culture in limited batches, and are imported into India. Low supply, slow growth and collector demand keep prices high.

How to care for variegated Anubias

  • Light: low to medium. Very strong light can cause algae on the pale leaf areas, and some variegation may fade on new leaves.
  • Placement: attach to wood or rock in a spot with gentle flow, where the pattern is easy to see at the front of the tank.
  • Water stability: keep temperature and parameters steady; variegated plants recover more slowly from shocks than green Anubias.
  • Nutrients: a light, regular liquid fertiliser helps, since pale leaves produce less energy of their own.
  • Never bury the rhizome: rot is the most common way expensive Anubias are lost.
  • Tank mates: safe with shrimp, bettas and small community fish; avoid snails and fish that rasp soft new leaves if you are protecting a costly plant.

Will the variegation stay?

Most variegated Anubias keep their pattern, but it varies from leaf to leaf. Some new leaves may come out greener, especially under very bright light or after stress. Fully white leaves are beautiful but weak, because they cannot photosynthesise well; a healthy plant needs some green. Never cut away all the green leaves to make a plant look whiter.

Buying rare Anubias online in India: what to check

  1. A live-arrival guarantee, since these plants are costly.
  2. Clear, real photos of the variety rather than stock images.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the rarest Anubias available in India?

Among plants commonly sold in India, heavily variegated cultivars such as Snow White, Marble, Panda and Stardust are the hardest to find and the most expensive.

Are rare Anubias harder to grow?

Not harder, but less forgiving. Their care is the same as any Anubias, but slower growth means mistakes like burying the rhizome or sudden water changes take longer to recover from.

Can I propagate rare Anubias myself?

Yes. Once the rhizome is long and has several leaves, cut it into sections with at least three leaves each. Expect it to take many months, which is part of why these plants stay valuable.

What is the cheapest variegated Anubias?

Anubias Butterfly (₹260), Pinto and Nana White (₹310) are the most affordable ways to start with variegated Anubias in India.
