Description

Micranthemum ‘Monte Carlo’ is the most popular true carpeting plant in modern aquascaping — small round leaves on creeping stems that form a dense green lawn across your substrate. Unlike Dwarf Baby Tears, Monte Carlo tolerates a wider range of light. It grows without CO2 in bright light and a nutrient-rich soil; CO2 gives a much faster, denser carpet. Plant small portions 2-3cm apart directly into substrate; it spreads via runners and fills in within 4-6 weeks under moderate-to-high light. A favourite for iwagumi and nature-style layouts.

What you get: one rooted clump about 6–8 cm across, similar to the photo, which you can split into small portions for planting.

Care at a glance

  • Placement: Foreground carpet
  • Light: Medium to high
  • CO₂: Not required in bright light with nutrient-rich soil; CO₂ gives a much faster, denser carpet
  • Temperature: 20–26 °C
  • Growth: Moderate to fast with CO₂
  • Difficulty: Medium

Plant small portions 2–3 cm apart in a nutrient-rich substrate; heat above 28 °C in Indian summers can slow it down. Read the full Monte Carlo care guide for planting, trimming and troubleshooting tips.

Compare light, CO2, growth rate and difficulty for every plant we stock in the aquarium plant care chart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Monte Carlo a good aquarium plant?

Yes, it is one of the most popular foreground carpet plants for a planted tank. Its round leaves are about 3–5 mm across and the carpet usually stays under 5 cm tall with regular trimming, so it suits nano tanks, iwagumi and nature-style layouts. It is safe with shrimp and small community fish, but goldfish, large cichlids and digging fish tend to uproot or eat it.

Is the Monte Carlo aquarium plant available in India?

Yes. You can order Monte Carlo on this page. It is hand-packed and sent by courier from Surat to anywhere in India for a flat ₹99, free on orders of ₹999 or more, paid upfront by UPI, card or netbanking through Razorpay. If it arrives dead, send one continuous unboxing video within 4 hours of delivery on WhatsApp (+91 81416 96983) or email (buyanubias@gmail.com) and we refund or replace it. Photos alone are not accepted.

Is Monte Carlo hard to grow?

It is not hard, but it needs more care than Anubias or Java fern, so we rate it medium. Give it medium to high light, a nutrient-rich aquasoil and water at 20–26 °C. Without CO₂ it grows slower and the runners can lift off the substrate, so plant portions firmly. A dry start lets the carpet root before you fill the tank.
