Description
Ludwigia sedioides, often called the mosaic plant, mosaic flower or water mosaic, forms distinctive diamond-shaped, mosaic-patterned leaf rosettes that float on the surface — genuinely one of the most eye-catching floating-leaf plants available. It needs bright light to maintain its pattern and colour and prefers still or gently moving water. A real conversation-starter plant for ponds, tubs, lotus bowls and large open-top tanks.
What you get: one Ludwigia sedioides plant with a single floating rosette about the size shown in the photo (roughly palm-sized).

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ludwigia sedioides need CO2?
No. Its leaves float on the surface and take carbon dioxide straight from the air, so injected CO2 adds very little. What it needs is strong light (at least 4–6 hours of direct sun outdoors, and full sun is best), warm water above 20 °C and nutrient-rich soil in its pot. If rosettes shrink or turn pale, it needs more sun, warmer water or a fertiliser tab, not CO2.
How do I care for Ludwigia sedioides (mosaic flower)?
Plant it in a pot of heavy garden soil or clay, topped with gravel, and lower it step by step to 20–60 cm under still water. Give it at least 4–6 hours of direct sun (full sun is best) and keep the water above 20 °C, ideally 24–32 °C. Push an aquatic fertiliser tab into the pot every 4–6 weeks and thin overlapping rosettes in summer. Our mosaic plant care guide covers winter care.
Is Ludwigia sedioides easy to grow?
Yes, outdoors. In a sunny tub, pond or lotus bowl it is easy in most of India and spreads fast from March to October. Indoors it is harder. It needs very strong light, an open top, warm water and at least 20 cm of depth, so it rarely thrives in a closed aquarium. For an easy Ludwigia inside a tank, try Ludwigia repens.
