Description
Amazon Frogbit is one of the most popular floating plants in the hobby: round, lily-pad-like leaves sit on the surface while long roots trail down into the water column, offering shelter for shrimp and fry and rapid uptake of excess nitrates. It also softens overhead lighting, which many low-light stem and rosette plants appreciate. No substrate or CO2 needed — just good surface light and stable water. Multiplies quickly via daughter plants once established.
What you get: a portion of about 3 floating plants with their trailing roots, similar to the photo.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Amazon Frogbit a good plant for an aquarium?
Yes, it is one of the most useful floating plants for a home aquarium. Its round leaves grow 2–5 cm across and shade the tank, and its trailing roots take up nitrate and phosphate, which helps slow algae. Shrimp and fry shelter in the roots. Avoid it with goldfish, koi and silver dollars, which eat it. Some large cichlids also tear it up. See how it compares in our Frogbit vs Water Lettuce vs Duckweed guide.
Is Amazon Frogbit hard to care for?
No, it is one of the easiest plants to keep. It needs no substrate or CO2, only medium light, calm water and a temperature of 20–28 °C. Most losses come from wet leaf tops, so keep surface flow gentle, let air move under the lid and keep LED lights slightly raised. Pale, small leaves usually mean the water is short of nutrients.
Does Amazon Frogbit grow quickly?
Yes, in a healthy tank it grows fast and can double in about two weeks. It spreads through runners that form new daughter plants. Growth is quickest with medium to strong light, some nitrate in the water and a still surface. Thin it weekly so no more than half the surface is covered, or bettas, gouramis and plants below lose open water and light.
How much does Amazon Frogbit cost?
Amazon Frogbit costs ₹90 on Anubias.in for a portion of about 3 floating plants, similar to the photo. It is hand-packed and sent by courier anywhere in India for a flat ₹99, free on orders of ₹999 or more. Payment is prepaid through Razorpay by UPI, card or netbanking. If it arrives dead, send one continuous unboxing video within 4 hours of delivery on WhatsApp (+91 81416 96983) or email (buyanubias@gmail.com) and we refund or replace it. Photos alone are not accepted.
What is the difference between Amazon Frogbit and duckweed?
Amazon Frogbit has much larger, round, lily-pad-like leaves with long trailing roots, while duckweed is tiny and spreads far faster. Frogbit is easier to scoop out and control, and its roots give shrimp and fry much more shelter — which is why many aquarists prefer it over duckweed.
Does Amazon Frogbit help reduce nitrates and algae?
Yes. As a fast-growing floating plant, Amazon Frogbit draws nitrogen and other nutrients straight from the water column, which helps lower nitrate levels and starve algae of the nutrients it needs. The shade from its surface leaves also limits algae growth on the glass and plants below.
