A classic grass-like carpeting plant that sends out runners to fill the foreground over time — a slightly taller, easier alternative to Dwarf Hairgrass for beginners.
Care at a glance
- Light: medium to high for a dense low carpet
- CO₂: helps keep it low and dense, not required
- Temperature: 18–28°C
- Placement: foreground, plant small clumps a few centimetres apart
- Spreads sideways via runners like Vallisneria
Available on pre-order. Imported to order; typical arrival around 15 days, with dispatch and tracking by email.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it carpet without CO₂?
Yes, though growth is slower and blades grow a bit taller without CO₂. Medium-high light and root feeding help it stay low and dense.
How is it different from Dwarf Hairgrass?
Sagittaria subulata is generally easier and more forgiving, with slightly broader, grass-like blades, while Dwarf Hairgrass gives a finer, shorter lawn.
How do I plant it?
Separate into small clumps and plant a few centimetres apart in the foreground; runners will spread and fill the gaps.
When will my pre-order ship?
This plant is imported to order; typical arrival is around 15 days from purchase, and we’ll email dispatch and tracking details.
